ZZ's First Christmas

We celebrated our first Christmas with our wonderful superheroes.

To be exact, we got to celebrate 4 Christmases. At Mama & Papa's, Pop & Grandma Kathy, at home with LoLo and DiDi with us, and at GG Paw & GG Maw's in Mississippi. With all the toys that they got, what was there favorite thing? Not the boxes, but the wrapping paper!

Zad would tear at it and then eat it.

Zeke would bury himself in the paper, stick his head up, and go back in the paper. And play with bows.

The ZZ's got to experience their first Christmas Cookies

And their first biscuits.

Overall it has been a fun first Christmas and we look forward to many more.

3 Quarters... That's Almost a Dollar

Our little miracles have reached 3 quarters of a year. No one would recognize them from the 2 lbs 5 oz and 2 lbs 6 oz they started at. They are large and in charge from sitting, rolling and trying to stand.

Zad is now 15 lbs and 3 oz attempting to stand at 27 inches tall. Yes, you read that right, when holding on to something he will try and stand. Doesn't mean he is sitting, but he likes to practice standing. He is doing everything he can to feed him self as he builds up the strength to hold up his own bottle and grab food and put it in his own mouth.

Zeke is now at 16 lbs 9.5 oz, and stretching at 27.25 inches. Zeke is rolling around, and when I say around, I mean he is leaving the room he starts in... By rolling. He is also getting to where he grabs things and is moving them around intentionally.

Mommy & Daddy are so proud of them and are getting excited for their first Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Birthday in the next 3 months. We thank God every day for our growing miracles.

2/3 of a Year

Today is September 1st which means the boys are 8 months old.

BatZad has gotten 2 teeth, both very sharp and is rolling over and laughing all over the place. He is eating 3 baby food meals a day and trying his hardest at holding his own bottle

SuperZeke is rolling his way around and is full of laughs. He is starting to figure out how to crawl, he just needs to figure out that he has to plant his limbs on the ground to propel himself. he is enjoying his 3 baby food meals a day also.

Both boy are sleeping anywhere from 10-14 hours a night and have just been awesome little superheroes.

Daddy has become insane and has started Grad School for School Counseling.

Mommy has been adjusting to working for the first time since the boys have been born. Thankfully our awesome nanny Marquita has made life a little easier.

Happy Semi Birthday ZZs

Yes we are a couple days late, but here we go.

It's hard to imagine that 6 months have passed by. From the 12 weeks 6 days early birth to the 14 1/2 weeks in the NICU.

Zad is at 24 1/2 inches and 12 lbs 1 oz.

Zeke is at 24 inches and 12 lbs 14 ozs.

They are both sitting up with assistance and getting oh so close to doing by theirselves. They have gotten "g" & "c/k" sounds coming out along with the vowels. Last week the boys had a conversation with one another, and when they see each other they have big grins on their faces. Today we are going to start baby cereal!!!

Mom & Dad are excited to be at half a year and are looking forward to advances that are coming.

6 years and still going

Wow, I guess with all the fun we've been having with the boys, I forgot to do the anniversaryy blog. Never done it on time any way. Ok so let's look back at the last year.

Last summer had its up and downs. Both Lauren and I were asked to help write curriculum for our perspective subjects, that was a lot of work, but we were well compensated.

On fathers day we found out we were pregnant, we were so excited, but it was not to be. A week later we found out we had a miscarriage. This was the 2nd time we lost a child, we were starting to lose hope. Well, a week after that we went to go try fertility treatment one more time. After a few weeks of waiting we found out we were pregnant with our 2 wonderful little boys. What a great way to end our summer.

We started off the school year well. We were at the same school for the first time, and we had just recently got some great news. (read paragraph above) I did notice how protective I am of my wife, especially when she is pregnant, and being a teacher is very stressful.

December came around and there were some issues that gave us a little scare. The boys were in a hurry to come out, but we were only at 5 months. Well, the Monday starting Christmas break, the doctor said Lauren needs to go on bed rest immediately, it's no longer about if the boys will come early, but how early, so let's slow it down as much as possible. Well on January 1st (12 weeks and 6 days early) the boys decided to come into the world. Our two beautiful boys were now visible without a sonogram.

Thankfully our director allowed Lauren to take the rest of the school year off. With the boys being born so early, they were rushed to Cook's Children where they spent the next few weeks. Eventually Zad came home. Thanks to mothers and friends, Lauren was able to be at the hospital with Zeke for the next 2 1/2 weeks, when he got to come home too.

I would spend 2 weeks at home with the boys (which was awesome) and then had to go back to work. For the remainder of the school year I would got to work while Lauren stayed home with the boys.

As we celebrate 6 years together as husband and wife, this past year has had a lot more ups than downs, but as usual, it's still a roller coaster of a life. Gotta love it though, makes appreciating those ups so much greater, and it's awesome to see how God is going to get you through the downs.

Well now we get ready for the next year. 8 weeks until Lauren and I go back to work. I've gotta a couple of projects to work on around the house and lots of play time with the ZZs. And we even have our nanny lined up for when we go back to work.

God is Awezomesauce, and has given me an awesome family.

The Kids Stole Our Faces

Well to start off after 102 days both Zeke & Zad are home.

Now that both boys are home we could not be happier.  It's nice to have the complete clan in the house.  We can't help but spend hours staring at their faces, free from wires and tubes.  From these observation we have decided they are showing certain features that we will share with you.

Zadok Harvey (Harvey is his Great Papa's name from his Daddy's family)

Zad is sporting his father's hair line, poor guy, that is thick like his mother, with some darkish red hair, that could come from either side of his family.  He has an angular face like his mother.  His eyes come from his father, and his nose from his mother.  With his fathers lips above a chin that came from his mother.  At this time it's too early to tell where the ears come from, or what his eyes color will be. (Brown could be either, blue from father, green from mother.)
Zad is a little Lauren.  Complete with strong will and ambitious attitude.  He is the go getter.  His schedule IS the schedule.

Ezekiel Clemons (Clemons is his Mommy's maiden name)

Zeke is sporting his father's hair line, poor guy, and the fine texture of his father, it is a lightish red hair that could come from either side of his family.  He has a more oval face like his father.  His eyes come from his mother, and his nose from his father.  With his mother's lips, above his father's chin.  We have been told that when he wrinkles his brow, he looks like Great Uncle Barto from his DiDi's family.  At this time it's too early to tell where the ears come from, or what his eyes color will be. (Brown could be either, blue from father, green from mother.)

Zeke is a little Shaun.  Cannot be rushed, extremely social, and a flirt.  He'll go along with whatever Zad decides, including schedule.
As you can see, the boys each have a nice balance of their Mommy & Daddy, which means we have our hands full.  Welcome home Super ZZ Bros.

NARF!!!

(To the tune of Pinky & the Brain)
They're Zekey and the Zad,
They're Zekey and the Zad,
One is a Goofball, the other is Rad.
They're Babies and they're Cute,
They love to go Poo.
They're Zekey, They're Zekey and the Zad, Zad, Zad, Zad, Zad, Zad, NARF!!!

Zeke: Zad, What are we going to do tonight?
Zad: The same thing we do every night?
Zeke: Try to find rubber pants in our size?
Zad: It is true we outgrew the ones we had, but no. We're going to try to escape the NICU.
For the official update:
Zad is at 20 inches long, and 6 pounds, 8 ounces. He is off of all breathing assistance and eating 58 ml of milk 8 times a day.
Zeke is at 20 inches long, and 6 pounds, 7 ounces.  He is working his way, closer and closer to being off air, he is currently at 3 liters of pressure of air flow, and eating 58 ml of milk 8 times a day.
These two are getting closer and closer to getting out of the NICU and going home.
Mom & Dad are thankful for the MANY prayers for these two, and ask that they continue to be prayed.

Zad Saves the World; Zeke Gets the Girl

So the boys reached 7 weeks old yesterday, and there have been some upgrades.

Zad, the go getter, adventurous, willing to try new things, and prefers not to be told no... In other words, a strong willed child :)  He is willing brave new worlds and slay the dragon.  Zad is at 5 pounds 2 ounces, and is down to 1 liter of pressure of air, and up to 48 ml of milk per feeding (plus nursing).

Zeke, mild mannered, quick to smile, can't be rushed, and loves to snuggle.  He is willing to save the damsel in distress, and charm away the ones not in distress.  Zeke is at 4 pounds 10.5 ounces, is currently off all breathing apparatuses (we are praying it stays this way) and is up to 42 ml of milk per feeding (and decided he wanted to start nursing as well)

Mommy & Daddy love their little super heroes, and can't wait to bring them to their secret lair to continue their super hero training.

HOLY UPGRADES BATMAN

So The Boys are 5 1/2 weeks old.  let's do an update.

Zad is at 4 pounds and 1 ounce and at 15.55 inches.  He is currently on High-Flow air, so that means no more CPAP!!!  Zad is also regulating his own temp, so he is doing great.

Zeke is at 3 pounds 11 ounces and is at 15.5 inches.  He is regulating his own temp, and is charming the nurses.  Zeke is also doing great.

The Super ZZ Bros. room will have many names... The Fortress of Solitude, Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, The Batcave, Avengers Mansion, The Watchtower, etc.  Until then, here is there Cribs that they upgraded to being able to regulate their temp.

Through Brightest Day and Blackest Night, The Fastest Man Alive

Zad, able to remove a CPAP machine in under a minute and continue breathing.  Able to remove a diaper and scatter poo every where.  At 15 1/4 inches and 2 lbs. and 13.9 oz, this Little Incredible Hulk has grown some reddish eyebrows and a round belly.  This Green Lantern, by the power of his will would like to remove every restriction and take over the world.

Zeke, able to disassemble his CPAP machine. Able to continue breathing, and charm every nurse... that is before they smell his diaper. At 15 1/4 inches and 2 lbs. and 13.9 oz, the Little Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has grown some blondish eye brows and a round belly as well.  This Flash, with his easy going spirit desires peace and chillaxation for all.

Dad continues to be a mild manner teacher during the day, and races to be Super Daddy in the evening.  Mom has forgone the idea of a secret identity, and is Ultra Mommy 24/7.

By our powers combined, we are The Mighty Tillitson Clan.

STRANGE THINGS YOU PRAY FOR AS A NEW PARENT

Ok, so the boys are now over 2 weeks old (so 29 weeks on the gestational calendar) and first we have to give a list of the things we have asked the boys to do.
1. Zeke, please breath
2. Zad, please poo
3. Zeke, please keep the poo in your diaper
4. Zad, please do not remove your c-pap machine, sensors, or the feeding tube
5. Both, please don't be naughty at the same time.

Ok, on to updates:

Zadok is at 14.5 inches long, and 2 pounds 7 ounces.  He has taken it upon himself that he doesn't need to be in the hospital.  Doctors, nurses, and parents disagree. As you can see in the picture, he is now opening his eyes.  He has a nice round tummy and the beginnings of chubby cheeks.

Ezekiel... well, Zeke can be a bit lazy.  There are times, he just doesn't want to do anything, like breathe.  He has received a booster of caffeine in addition to the normal amount to motivate him.  He is at 15.3 inches, and 2 pounds, 4.6 ounces.  He is getting pretty good at sucking motions, as you can see him with his paci.  Zeke is also starting to fill out with some baby fat.

Shaun got to spend a three day weekend with his boys, after being a spaz at work all week.  Super Lolo cleaned the garage, much to the appreciation of his daughter and son-in-law.  And Lauren climbed the stair, showing how much she is recovering.

They Are A Week Old (Or They Were 3 Days Ago)

Achievables of the Week (Bleep Bloop)

Zadok, breaths room air (the same 21% oxygen that you and I breath) with the help of his CPAP.  He has gained 2 ounces.  He has done pushups, not only off of his bed, but also from his Daddy's chest.  Apparently, since their heads aren't as big as a new born, they are able to lift themselves a little easier.  Zad is no longer on a PICC IV (which he was getting nutrients from), he now consumes 15 ml of breast milk every 3 hours.  With his strong grabbing skills, he is a Thumb War Champion in the making.

Ezekiel as can see in the photo, has wide open peepers.  He is consuming 18 ml of breast milk with 4-5 calories added in.  This obviously means that he no longer has a PICC IV either.  Zeke is at 23% oxygen, and can fill a diaper like no other.  He is loved by nurses for his easy going manner.  (Player)

In honor of their super hero status, the following sign has been posted in their room.  For those that don't know the symbols put into the letters they are the following: ZAD - Green Lantern, Captain America, and Nightwing; ZEKE - Flash, Spider-Man, Batman, Iron Man.  Shaun found this as a wonderful replacement of their old sign which said "Twin A" & "Twin B"

Shaun has gone back to work, Lauren is eating and recovering, and Super Lolo changed his fir grandchild's diaper. Bleep Bloop.

HAPPY NEW YEAR... I MEAN, HAPPY NEW BABIEZ

Here is the birth story of Zeke & Zad Thompson

Lauren had spent the two weeks of Christmas vacation on bed rest, and had not gone crazy... yet.  On Sunday, January 1st, 2012, she sent Shaun off to Sunday School... I mean Life Group.  At the end of Life Group, Shaun got a call from Lauren stating "Come home, I'm in pain."

So Shaun hurried home, to find that his wife had had 4 contractions in the 15 minutes it took him to get home.  Shaun called every doctor and nurse he had a number for and the only message he got was "For emergencies, call 911."  So being the smart man he is, he did not.  Shaun instead, called his mom.  She said, "Lauren being on bed rest, and having twins, take her to the hospital.  The worst that could happen, is they send her home."

We hadn't even packed a hospital bag yet.  Why would we, we were only at 27 weeks.  So Lauren watched as her frenzied husband, spazed and threw things into a bag.  He was basically the stereotypical man on the commercials, trying to get his wife to the hospital, but he remembered her and did not speed.

Lauren had had 8 contractions by the time they got to the hospital.  A very kind receptionist, and 2 nurses did not even sign them in, but wheeled them straight to labor and delivery.  All while discussing new years eve festivities.

Shaun & Lauren got to the room, and watched as the nurses struggled with new equipment that would only allow one baby's heartbeat to be on the monitor at a time.  With twins this could be a problem.  In the course off the examination, where they were planning on trying to stop the labor, the doctor discovered she had had MANY contractions, was 3 cm dilated, with a bulging bag.  So in other words, it was too late to stop the pregnancy.

With in an hour and a half of getting to the hospital, Lauren was prepped for an emergency c-section with Dr. Z & anesthesiologist, Dr. Woo.  Lauren was calm... Shaun was freaking.  Where as Lauren was in a gown and cap, Shaun was in something that looked like a hazmat suit.

Still very calm, Lauren was wheeled to the operating room.  Shaun, was asked to leave, and was told that they would come get him, when it was time.  Lauren was left with VERY BIG needles.  She took it like a rockstar, or so they told her, but she was a little worried that they said "OOOPS!" in the process.  She was reassured that nothing was wrong, and that there would be no more ooops.  Completely prepped, they asked her if she was ready.  She replied "WHERE IS SHAUN!"  They brought him back in seconds later.  He was relieved to be able to be with Lauren behind the sheet.

After only a few minutes, which involved Dr. Woo giving lots of drugs, and suctioning up diced pineapples (don't ask, at least she didn't eat the pizza she had for lunch)  Zadok was pulled out. All we could see was the top of a dark haired head, that looked the size of a racket ball. All they could hear, were soft cries, as he was learning to breath, a little early.  One minute later, Ezekiel, and his complicated pose, was also pulled out.  Zeke, came out gasping, but had the most beautiful profile.  Shaun was beaming, and Lauren was still calm, until the two babies left.

As they put Lauren back together, she felt pain.  Sharp, excruciating pain.  She did not scream, but Shaun was forced to calm her breathing, so it wouldn't be as bad.  This was the longest part of the birth, we would find out later that "OOOPS!" means, that some of the epidural spilled, and so what Lauren got, was wearing off early.  Dr. Woo, Shaun, and Dr. Z reassured her that she had done as well as any rockstar could be expected to do.  She was wheeled back into the original prep room, where nurses speedily attempted to get her on morphine for the pain.  After morphine we discovered their weights and APGAR rating, which for both of them was 7/8 out of 10, which is amazing for 27 weekers.

Friends and family started to visit, but they had not seen their babies since delivery.  Eventually, the NICU transfer teams from Cook's (The Teddy Bear Flight) brought us Zeke and Zad, so that we could see them before they went to Cook's Children's Hospital to continue development.  Each of the boys recognized their mother as she touched their hands, and her voice when she spoke.

The boys are currently at Cook's, and are doing marvelous.  There have been a couple of hiccups, but these are expected for 27 weekers/superheroes.

Zadok Harvey Thompson, was born on January 1st, 2012 at 1:49 pm, at 13.5 inches, and weighing at 2 punds 5 ounces.

Ezekiel Clemons Thompson was born on January 1st, 2012 at 1:50 pm, at 15 inches, and weighing at 2 pounds, 6 ounces.
